Career Orientation - Protean

Working in politics is largely self directed employment, I am not passively waiting for opportunities to come my way but rather proactively working to advance my career.

I am seeking mentors, taking on extra responsibilities and building my own network which are key aspects of self directed career management.

I have values driven motivation – politics is a profession driven by values such as public service, justice and making a societal impact.

My decisions and career direction are driven by a desire to create change and influence public policy, my motivation is based on internal values and not rewards.

04

Purpose Score - High Level 52 / 70

Purpose is an abiding intention to achieve a long-term goal that is both personally meaningful and makes a positive mark on the world. The goals that foster a sense of purpose are ones that can potentially change the lives of other people, like supporting your company's mission, creating art, or teaching kids to read.

My score suggests that you have a purpose that shapes the smaller decisions in your life and imbues it with meaning. Patrick Hill and his Washington University colleagues have found important advantages for more purposeful adults, including better cognitive functioning and even longer lives. They’re more likely to floss their teeth, exercise, and get to the doctor. Having a purpose also seems to be associated with lower stress levels, overall, which contributes to better health.

Why Politics?

"It empowers the powerless. It is the only source of social and economic change in the world, both positive and negative. It provides a space where the most critical ideas are debated, and the best outcomes are sought."
